Note:- In foreign matter, the impurities of animal origin shall not be more than 0.10 percent by weight provided that the total of foreign matter, other edible grains and damaged grains shall not exceed twelve percent by weight.

General Characteristics:-

  1. Matki / Moth (whole) shall be dried and mature seeds of pulse Vigna aconitifolia Jacq Marechal.

  2. Minimum requirements

    1. Matki / Moth (whole) shall be.-

      1. sweet sound, clean, wholesome and free from admixture of unwholesome substances;

      2. uniform in size, shape and colour;

      3. free from rodent hair and excreta, moulds, living and dead insects, insect fragments, harmful bacteria, fungal infestation, mould growth, webs, parasite, larvae and mites;

      4. free from obnoxious smell, discolouration and all other impurities except to the extent as indicated in this schedule;

      5. free from added colouring matter, admixture of deleterious substances;

      6. free from toxic or noxious seeds such as Crotalaria (Crotalaria spps.), Corn cockle (Agrostemma githago Linn.), Castor bean (Ricinus communis Linn.), Jimson weed (Datura stramonium), and other seeds that are commonly recognized as harmful to health; and

      7. free from abnormal taste, flavour and odour.

    2. It shall comply with the restrictions in regard to the limits for metallic contaminants, crop contaminants, naturally occurring toxic substances, insecticides and pesticides residue, microbial requirements and other food safety requirements as specified under the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residue) Regulation, 2011 and the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011 made under the Food Safety and Standards Act,2006 (34 of 2006 ) for domestic trade.

    3. It shall comply with the residual limits of heavy metals, pesticides and other food safety requirements as laid down by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, or importing countries requirement for exports.

Moth shall be

  1. Clean, wholesome, reasonably uniform in size, shape and colour characteristic to the variety;

  2. Free from obnoxious smell and fungus infestation.

Sampling

  • 5 % or minimum one container shall be randomly selected for sampling

  • 250 gm whichever is applicable shall be drawn from each selected container and shall be mixed homogenously, called as primary sample.

  • 250 gm shall be drawn from primary sample called as Laboratory sample

Definitions

  • Foreign matter includes husk, straws, weed seeds, other inedible grains, metallic pieces, sand, gravel, dirt, pebbles, stones, lumps of earth, clay, mud and animal filth etc.

  • Other Edible Grains means any edible grains (including oil seeds) other than the one which is under consideration;

  • Damaged Grains means grains that are sprouted or internally damaged as a result of heat, microbe, moisture or weather and mechanical injured grains in case of whole pulses.

  • Weevilled grains means grains that are partially or wholly bored by insects injurious to grains but does not include germ eaten grains and egg spotted grains.

  • Admixture means the presence of a variety of the same grain other than the variety in consideration.

  • Immature & Shriveled grains means kernels or pieces of grains that are not fully developed.

Optional parameters are voluntary and may be analyzed as per buyer-seller agreement.
