Description
-
The isabgol shall consist of dried seeds of Plantago ovata Forsk. (Fam. Plantaginaceae).

The seeds shall be cymbioform, hard, pinkish-grey to brown, smooth, from 1 mm to 3.5 mm long, and 1 mm to 1.75 mm broad and glossy with reddish-brown oval spot in the centre of the convex surface; the concave surface contains the hilum covered with a thin white membrane having two perforations, one on each side of the hilum.

The material shall have a mucilaginous taste.

The material shall be free from insect or fungus infestation and from fermented, musty or other objectionable odours.

It shall also be free from any added colours and flavours and any harmful foreign materials and from insect and fungus infestation.

General Characteristics

The husk shall be obtained by milling clean psyllium seeds produced in India

It shall be free from extraneous matter, added colouring, matter and musty or other objectionable odour.

It shall be free from insect and fungus infestation

Organic impurities: Include gritty particles, broken or entire embryo, fragments of endowsperm and/or capsular wall of fruits belonging to isubgol crop.

Extraneous matter: Means impurities of extraneous origin like sand, dirt or others which do not belong to the Isubgol crop.

Non-specified: - This is not a grade in its strict sense, but has been provided for the produce not covered by other grades. Isubgol husk under this grade shall be exported only against a firm order from the foreign buyer indicating the quantity and quality of the produce desired.

Sampling

5 % or minimum one container shall be randomly selected for sampling
