General Characteristics
Tejpat shall,-

be the sun dried leaves of the tree botanically known as “Cinnamomum tamala, Nees and Eberm” of family lauraceae

be clean, wholesome, fresh and generally conform to the shape, size color and aroma according to the characteristics of the commodity

be free from musty odour, off-flavor, mould growth, insect infestation, rodent contamination and other impurities except to the extent as indicated in this Schedule

be free from added colouring matter and admixture of leaves other than Tejpat
-
be in sound merchantable condition and fit for human consumption in all respects

comply with specifications prescribed under the relevant rules, in case of application on ECO MARK for this commodity

comply with the restrictions in regard to aflatoxin. Metallic and other naturally occurring toxic substance contamination, insecticide residues and other provisions prescribed under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules, 1955.

Damaged, discoloured and shrivelled leaves-means leaves that are damaged or discoloured or not property developed which materially affect the quality, shrivelled leaves do not include small and tender leaves.

Inspect board and diseased leaves that are partly or wholly bored or eaten by insects or diseased which materially affect the quality.

Sampling

5 % or minimum one container shall be randomly selected for sampling
