General Characteristics:-

Castor Seeds shall be

  1. Mature, clean and dried seeds

  2. Wholesome

  3. Uniform in size, shape and colour

  4. Free from living and dead insects, insect fragments

  5. Free from fungus, moulds and mites

  6. Free from added colouring matter or artificial colouring matter

  7. Free from rodent hair and excreta; (h) Free from admixture of any other seed

  8. Free from rancidity and mustiness and the seed shall not emit foul odour or found deformed due to moist condition

Castor Seed shall be

  1. Clean, wholesome, reasonably uniform in size, shape and colour characteristic to the variety

  2. Free from abnormal flavours, obnoxious smell and fungus infestation

Sampling

  • 5 % or minimum one container shall be randomly selected for sampling

  • 250 gm whichever is applicable shall be drawn from each selected container and shall be mixed homogenously, called as primary sample.

  • 250 gm shall be drawn from primary sample called as Laboratory sample

Definitions

  • Foreign matter: includes husk, straws, weed seeds, other inedible grains, metallic pieces, sand, gravel, dirt, pebbles, stones, lumps of earth, clay, mud and animal filth etc.

  • Damaged/Discoloured Grains means grains that are sprouted or internally damaged as a result of heat, microbe, moisture or weather and mechanical injury.

  • Broken seeds are pieces of sound kernels that are less than three fourths of the size of full kernels.

Optional parameters are voluntary and may be analyzed as per buyer-seller agreement.
